Say ‘boo’ to the virus
The Hambledon Gallery, based in Blandford, has launched a range of protective masks to say ‘boo’ to the COVID-19 virus and raise funds for Diverse Abilities.
Designed by local painter Henrietta Young, the novelty masks aim to provide light-hearted moments for what is still a difficult time for many. There are six designs available for £15 each; four with Liberty London print fabrics, one green gingham with a Liberty London tongue, and a children’s frog face version. All designs offer a pocket for a filter.
Henrietta Young commented: “I have been working with Diverse Abilities and its adult’s day centre, The Beehive, for quite some time. The adults that the charity supports are so fantastic and have remained in my thoughts throughout these unusual months. The design of these masks, with a fabric tongue poking through, are a little something that I hope will bring a bit of amusement to people in the streets or on public transport in the coming months.”
Helen Mortimer, development manager at Diverse Abilities, added: “We are thrilled to be supported by the team at The Hambledon Gallery and Henrietta, who is part of our fundraising panel for The Splash Appeal. As lockdown restrictions start to ease and some of our charity’s services come back to life, many of the people we support will need to continue to be in isolation for months to come. The funds raised from these masks can help to provide support our COVID-19 emergency response.”
Masks can be purchased in store at The Hambledon Gallery, Salisbury Street, Blandford, or online at hambledongallery.co.uk.
100 per cent of profits from the masks will be donated to the charity’s emergency appeal. Visit diverseabilities.org.uk/emergency to find out more.
