One week to double your donations for Diverse Abilities

Diverse Abilities, Dorset’s disability charity, has an incredible opportunity to raise tens of thousands through the Big Give– but needs the public’s help to release this and realise the charity’s vision of providing a year’s support for families of children with disabilities.

The Big Give Christmas Challenge runs from midday on Tuesday 3 December to midday Tuesday 10 December with all donations made via the Big Give website being doubled for this week only. Therefore, a £10 donation will become £20 or a £50 donation will become £100, plus gift aid can be added if applicable.

The match funding is made up from a pledge from an individual who has supported the charity for a number of years, plus a pledge from the Reed Foundation, which was achieved through the charity successfully applying for the Big Give Christmas Challenge.

Helen Mortimer, Head of Fundraising at Diverse Abilities commented: “We are really excited to have teamed up with the Big Give this year, and to have the opportunity to double the donations given during this special week. The money is desperately needed to support our much-needed family sessions to make life that bit easier for these families.”

Over 7 days, Diverse Abilities aim to reach a total target of £71,244 to fund sessions to support families with a child with special educational needs and disabilities. These families can often suffer from exhaustion and isolation, feeling unable to leave their homes. Every donation will provide sessions to help these families, from play sessions and a safe space for the whole family, parent wellbeing sessions, weekly sibling support groups and opportunities for families to create special memories together.

A parent supported by the charity commented: “In a time when we were so isolated and unsure we were made to feel so welcome. Providing play opportunities and experiences that were once impossible, made possible. The endless support they have given us, you just couldn’t find that anywhere else. We couldn’t be without the charity, it’s our second home.”
