The Nature Nook
Diverse Abilities Outdoor Learning Service
Welcome to the Nature Nook
Nature Nook is our home for all things outdoor learning at The Treehouse. Based in Hurn, this is a welcoming outdoor space designed to inspire curiosity, confidence, and creativity through nature-based learning.
We encourage children to explore the outdoors, develop practical skills, and connect with the natural world.
From tool use and bushcraft, to imaginative play and team challenges, every session supports hands-on learning in a calm, sensory-rich environment. Our Nature Nook is inclusive by design providing a safe, supportive space where every child and young person can thrive, learn at their own pace, and enjoy the freedom of outdoor discovery.
Our facilities include mud kitchens, a fire pit, den building, outdoor skills, and a Changing Place.

Little Seedlings
Little Seedlings is our toddler group for those aged under 5.
Nature crafts, planting, story time, and more are all on offer at our under 5s stay and play!
These sessions are designed to get your little one outside and exploring the world around them through sensory activities and nature-based loose parts play.
Our Nature Nook is full of opportunities to safely roll, dig, climb, and wander, featuring a grassy orchard and a wood-chipped play zone.
Alongside guided activities, the Nature Nook also offers plenty of free play areas, including a beautiful mud kitchen and a magical wishing tree.
Our Outdoor Learning Lead is highly experienced in supporting children with SEN, but this group is open to all, including those without additional needs.
Young people must be accompanied by a parent or carer.
When: 10 - 11.30am Thursdays (Dorset term time)
Cost: £7.50 per child
Home Ed Sessions
These sessions are available for those who are out of school or in alternative provision.
Spend time in our Nature Nook, learning a range of nature-based skills and taking part in physical activities such as wide games, sports, and obstacle courses. For ages 6 to 18.
During sessions you can expect to learn how to safely use and maintain various tools, including bushcraft knives, mallets, saws, and axes. Both long-term group projects and individual creations will be developed over the weeks, encouraging personal growth and teamwork.
A core part of outdoor learning is its adaptability to the needs and interests of individuals. While sessions are planned with specific activities in mind, everyone has a say in what they do. There’s also the freedom to engage in self-directed free play within the area at any time.
Young people must be accompanied by a parent or carer.
When: 12.30pm - 2.30pm Thursdays (Dorset term time)
Cost: £8.50 per child
Holiday Club
At our Holiday Clubs, children aged 8 to 14 will enjoy a range of nature-based activities such as fire lighting, green wood crafts, and den building.
Our days are free-flowing with structured activities thoughtfully woven in - reflecting the outdoor learning approach of child-led development. Each day’s activities are shaped by the interests and choices of children from previous sessions, and our trained leader is there to support and help bring their ideas to life.
Alongside games, sports, and creative crafts, children will learn tool skills with a strong focus on safety, proper technique, and respect for the tools they’re using. They’ll take part in both individual and group projects. Popular tool-based creations include wooden animals, toy cars, and wands - but we also encourage children to follow their own ideas, with our supportive team always on hand to help.
Ultimately, our holiday clubs are a chance for children to make new friends, have fun, and maybe even discover a new hobby or skill - all in a safe and inclusive outdoor environment.
Please note, this is a drop off session so parents and carers will not be able to remain on site during the day.
While the Nature Nook is led by a team with strong experience in supporting children with special educational needs, this particular holiday club is designed for children who can take part safely and independently in a group setting, without the need for additional staffing or 1:1 support.
We deeply value inclusion and expanding access is part of our long-term vision. As we establish this new service we’re actively exploring ways to offer SEN-specific sessions in the future, so that more children can enjoy what we provide.
If your child has additional needs, we welcome you to get in touch with us to discuss whether this setting would be a good fit. For this club, children must be able to fully participate without adult assistance throughout the session. Click here to contact the team.
When: 8.30am - 3pm Mondays and Thursdays (Dorset school holidays)
Cost: £35 per child
Optional: Sessions can be extended to 4pm for a £5 surcharge.
