Meet Alex, Outdoor Learning Lead with the Nature Nook
I would describe myself as outdoorsy, fun and creative.
Initially, I started working for Diverse Abilities as part of the Short Breaks Crew. I then studied Wildlife Ecology and Conservation at Kingston Maurward College before joining The Treehouse team as Outdoor Learning Lead.
I set up the nature nook and garden areas, then run any sessions that take place as part of the provision. I risk assess the activities and also reach out to schools and community groups to get them to come to our sessions.
I think my biggest challenge so far has been getting people to know about the Nature Nook which we have done by utilising in team connections with schools and engaging with communities through online platforms, as well as leaflet drops.
I have quite a few fond memories from working here. Thorpe Park trips with Coping with Chaos are always fun, but I think my favourite memory has to be water fights at Durweston Open Houses.
My advice for new starters would be to get to know your team, and come out on staff socials and have fun.
