Meet Ashley, Support Worker at The Beehive
Meet Ashley, a support worker at The Beehive. Hear what he has to say about her career with us:
The three words I would use to describe myself are easy going, hard-working, and passionate.
Before working at The Beehive, I was a chef working in the hospitalityindustry for 15 years.
A typical day as a support worker at The Beehive involves supporting the students to get the most out of their day. We run a variety of different activities throughout the day. This could be cooking, arts and crafts, sewing, photography, sensory stories, Yoga or Zumba, the list goes on. All our groups are run by the support workers who work hard to organise and put passion into the group so it makes it fun and interesting for the students. We also have trips out to Kingston Lacy to look after our very own allotment, sailing with Sailability, or litter picking around the local area doing their bit for the community. We even have a weekly lunch club where the students pick a place to go for lunch and enjoy some social time with their friends. No day is the same. We are always there to help the students achieve their goals and ambitions, and provide the best care and support that we can offer.
My biggest challenge was undertaking my NVQ level 3 in health and social care, from coming from a background in hospitality this was a totally different way of learning. With the support of my managers and team leaders I achieved my level 3 in Health and Social Care.
My favourite memory was attending the Gala Ball one year, I was blown away by the generosity of people who raised so much money.
My aspirations at work are to keep on learning and gaining more knowledge in complex care.
