Meet Sarah, Personal Support Assistant in our Supported Living Team

Meet Sarah, a personal support worker in Supported Living. Hear what she has to say about her career with us:

I would describe myself as dedicated, kind hearted and enthusiastic.

I had never done care work before joining Diverse Abilities even though I come from a family of nurses! I also used to help run a wildlife rescue organisation taking injured wild animals.

My day as a support worker involves supporting and assisting the people I support to have fulfilled and enjoyable lives. My responsibilities vary from assisting with personal care, medication and cooking to getting out to social events, shopping, day centres and ensuring they are safe, happy and as independent as possible.

My biggest challenge has been working through the COVID pandemic and ensuring that I kept all the ladies and gentleman I support safe as well as entertained. They have all been fantastic!

My advice for any new starter would be to take advantage of the brilliant training that Diverse Abilities offers and be prepared to work and play hard. The rewards of supporting our ladies and gentlemen are so worth the occasional harder and more difficult shifts. Always ask if you are unsure of anything as we have so many experienced staff.
