Meet Abi, Supported Living Registered Manager
Find out more about Abi’s role at Diverse Abilities:
My colleagues would describe me as whitty, kind, and generous.
I oversee the running of Supported Living. Ensuring the service we provide is safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well-led. Always striving to better the service we deliver for the people we support.
Before joining Diverse Abilities, I studied Public Services at college. I went into home insurance for a couple of years before joining Diverse Abilities as a Personal Support Assistant. I was always keen to work for Diverse Abilities as my sister, who has Cerebral Palsy, attended Langside School, Smithers (now Lily’s Place) for respite, and Barnabas (now The Beehive). I saw first-hand the opportunities these services were able to offer my sister and the support my parents received.
The COVID lockdowns were really difficult, as we were not able to have direct contact with the people we support and staff. The people we support were not able to see doctors or have the medical care they needed due to COVID restrictions. We had to adapt quickly by changing the way we worked, such as virtual meetings.
My favourite memory is taking a gentleman I supported to visit his sister and her family in Spalding, he had never been to visit them and it was lovely to see them all together.
I plan to continue to give my all to Supported Living, always striving to better the service for the people we support. At this moment in time, I don’t see myself not working for Diverse Abilities.
