Across the UK, disabled people and their families are more likely to face poverty, unemployment, and isolation.
The rising cost of living and changes to disability benefits are making things even worse - pushing more people into crisis. With proposed cuts to disability benefits and personal independence payments (PIP), Scope has calculated that over 700,000 more disabled people are at risk of falling into poverty.
The anxiety and the fear of coping without financial support is overwhelming. In fact, the Carers Trust warns that nearly 75% of unpaid carers report worsening mental health due to financial pressure and stress. Unfortunately, the process of applying for benefits or appealing decisions is incredibly challenging, especially for people with difficulty communicating, with limited literacy, or who have learning disabilities.
That’s why our Advice Team exists.
We help disabled people of all ages, and their families, navigate benefits applications, appeals, and tribunals to ensure they receive what they are entitled and what they need. We provide interpreters, including British Sign Language. We make sure their voices are heard and their needs understood.
Our waiting list is longer than ever.
We can’t do it without you – your donation will support our advisors as they work tirelessly to lift people out of crisis and towards a path of stability and hope.
Thank you
