Volunteers required for recycling weekend

Volunteers and vans are required to join Diverse Abilities’ efforts for a sustainable Christmas as part of its Treecycling fundraising initiative.

Taking place over Saturday 8, Sunday 9, and Monday 10 January 2022, the charity will be collecting East Dorset’s Christmas trees for recycling following the festive period. Volunteers are required for driving vans and wayfinding, as well as dropping of the trees at its nominated recycling points across the conurbation and beyond.

Claire Cooper, fundraising officer at Diverse Abilities, commented: “Treecycling is always a really fun weekend, and needless to say it certainly blows off the cobwebs following the festive feasting period. It’s one of our most important fundraisers of the year and allows us to raise vital funds for the children and adults we support. 2021 was a record-breaking year for the collection, and we’re hoping to go on and break records again this year.”

Vans, of Transit size or larger, are required to help the collection and business, families, or community groups with access to these are encouraged to get in touch and provide support over the weekend.

Claire continued: “There’s no need to give up your whole weekend, just providing a day’s help or even a few hours will help to make a massive difference to collect all the trees booked over the festive period. We’ve got a new route planning system as well, so we’re hoping it’ll be our most efficient year yet, further helping to cut our carbon emissions as part of this recycling scheme.”

Those interested in being part of the collections can email treecycling@diverseabilities.org.uk or call 01202 711507 to find out more.

Alternatively, visit diverseabilities.org.uk/trees and book your tree collection for a suggested £10 donation.
