Country Challenge returns as charity’s fundraiser
Country Challenge, the fundraiser in aid of Dorset’s disability charity Diverse Abilities, has returned for its second year after raising £7,600 for the organisation in 2019.
The event involves a tournament across a range of five outdoor activities including clay pigeon shooting, target rifles, archery, fly fishing and more, taking place at Purbeck Shooting School near Wareham on Friday, June 25 from 9am until 5pm.
Karen Hay, events manager at Diverse Abilities, commented: “Last time we hosted this event, we had 12 teams battle it out to be crowned sharpshooters of the day –everyone learnt new skills and had a great laugh along the way. It’s the perfect balance of competitive spirit and fun so there’s no need to have tried any of these activities before.”
Teams of four can enter for £500, which includes a breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea and each activity will come with expert tuition to maximise chances of winning the grand prize – a wheelbarrow of alcohol. There will also be a prize for whomever has shown the best prowess over the day.
Graham Brown, managing director at Purbeck Shooting School, added: “We are proud to continue hosting this event with Diverse Abilities. We all know how tricky 2020 was for businesses across the board, and to be able to welcome old faces and new to the school while raising money for a worthy cause is a step in the right direction for recovery.”
Monies donated by each team can help to provide vital support at the charity including:
Hosting an evening at Awesome Nights, the youth club for 18 to 25-year olds,
A play session for 16 families at Coping with CHAOS, or
Taking a group of adults who attend The Beehive out on a trip along Wareham River.
Purbeck Shooting School was established in 1955 and has been voted as the Best Shooting Ground in the UK. The site occupies 80 acres of mixed heath land and conifer plantation.
