Club to support families of children with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities

Diverse Abilities, Dorset’s Disability Charity runs the PMLD Club, dedicated to giving families who have a child with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities a safe space to meet like-minded parents whilst their children take part in a range of activities.

Held during the school holidays and once a month at weekends during term time, the PMLD Club offers a safe, welcoming space for families to connect, share experiences and enjoy tailored activities.

Children attending the sessions can engage in sensory stories, messy play, music sessions, Hydrotherapy and events led by a range of professionals.

Sessions are weekly during the summer holidays:

Friday 14th July – Musical Story Box Immersive Experience ‍ ‍

The Treehouse, Merritown Lane, Christchurch, BH23 6DT

12:30PM – 3:30PM

Bringing popular children's stories to life through magical props, singing songs, and lots of classical music including live musical performances!

Monday 27th July – Hydrotherapy and Zen ‍ ‍

Langside School, Langside Avenue, Poole, BH12 5BN

Time slots between 9:30AM – 1:30PM

For this session you will be allocated a time slot in the hydrotherapy pool to enjoy some relaxing swimming time, with optional access to the sensory room, a classroom filled with sensory materials to act as a chill-out space and Langside's outdoor space before or after your swim slot.

Friday 7th August – Squidge and Pop Bubble Yoga‍ ‍

The Treehouse, Merritown Lane, Christchurch, BH23 6DT

12:30PM – 3:30PM

Join for some bubbly fun with Lisa from Squidge and Pop. Everybody can explore creative movement, expand their imagination and enjoy the serenity of alternative therapeutic bubble play and relaxation.

Monday 17th August – Music Studio Session ‍ ‍

Absolute Music, 3-5 Knighton Heath Industrial Estate, 855 Ringwood Road, Bournemouth, BH11 8NE

10AM – 12PM

Led by our experienced music teacher, the group will explore a range of instruments through hands-on play and guided support. Together, participants will experiment with sounds, rhythms, and textures to create a sensory-rich musical experience.

Wednesday 26th August – Rebound Bounce‍ ‍

Langside School, Langside Avenue, Poole, BH12 5BN

12:30PM – 3:30PM

We will be joined by Aine Penfold who will be supporting those with PMLD to join in on a sensory rebound bounce session. We will also have access to Langside's sensory room, the sensory garden and sensory activities to explore as well!

Charlotte Snowshall, Short Breaks Assistant at Diverse Abilities commented: “It is great to be able to offer the PMLD Club sessions for these children and families who often face significant challenges. The children get to join in with activities that they may not otherwise have access to, and families get to meet others who are facing similar challenges.”
