Meet Mariana, Events Executive

Find out more about Mariana’s role at Diverse Abilities:

I would describe myself as organised, reliable and a team player.

We run around 18 events a year and they go from small events, like comedy nights, craft clubs and Christmas concert to big events like our Golf Day, Rugby Lunch and Gala Ball.

Each day is unique, involving tasks such as sourcing prizes for raffles and auctions, searching for venues and suppliers; making sure staff and volunteers who what to do during an event; engaging sponsors for our events and much more. We are always trying to come up with new events which is very exciting. For 2025, we can’t wait to deliver the first Diverse Abilities Fundraising Barn Dance which we are confident is going to be a success.

One of the biggest challenges in fundraising events is competing with larger, national charities for prizes and support. To overcome this, we focus on building strong relationships with local businesses and individuals connected to our cause.  Another challenge is to gather a good number of donated prizes for all our events.

Looking ahead my goal is to create unforgettable events that raise vital funds for the incredible people we support.  The most fulfilling part of my work is knowing that every penny raised directly impact lives.

My advice to anyone joining the team is to learn the charity story and let it inspire you.
