Meet Kelly, Lead Support
Kelly began her journey as a Children Support Worker at Lily’s Place, and is now a Lead Support. Hear what she has to say about her career with us:
I’ve been in childcare for over 10 years having worked in nurseries - I started my way up from an apprenticeship. I nannied abroad in the French Alps and was a private nanny for three and a half years before moving to Diverse Abilities. I fancied a change from what I was doing, but was unsure what, so applying for this role was a huge change for me in some sense but still with childcare, which is what I love.
Day to day role is caring for children and young people, and since I have been promoted to Lead Support I have more responsibilities with signing in and out medication, making sure medication is given on time and to the correct child. I have link children which I update regularly when needed. I also have daily and monthly jobs to complete as a lead support, as well as making sure the staff are all happy.
My favourite memory so far at Diverse Abilities has to be going out with Project over the summer holidays at Adventure Wonderlands, supporting a child helping them to accomplish their goal of trying new adventures.
If I could give one piece of advice to new starters, it would be to come in with a positive mindset, lots of energy, and be prepared to learn about the different spectrums of disabilities.
