People with profound and multiple disabilities are amongst some of the most vulnerable to the risks of COVID-19 within our communities. Supporting people with disabilities here in Dorset remains our primary focus, now more than ever.

Self-isolation is challenging for us all, but for families caring for a child with disabilities it can create an even greater pressure for everyone at home, causing families to feel even more isolated, exhausted, and worried. Many adults with disabilities are now isolated and require support from our staff.

Our support is necessary, and our services have adapted as part of this emergency response:

  • Adults are being supported in their homes through outreach projects and The Beehive Centre offers emergency respite where required;

  • The summer provision from Coping with CHAOS and Project have been set up with meticulous planning to maintain social distancing and family groups;

  • Our overnight respite homes continue to provide their necessary care with new guidelines in place;

  • Remote sessions are being offered online through YouTube, Facebook and video calling;

  • And we have massively increase our procurement of personal protective equipment for staff.

Right now, our amazing team is working tirelessly to continue delivering the highest standards of care. Our nursing and physiotherapy services will continue, meaning that we reduce pressure on the NHS by delivering these safely within homes and our services.

We urgently need your financial support to continue delivering the care and support needed.

We cannot let this stop us supporting children, adults, and families when they need us the most.

The next few months are bringing new challenges as the people we support will be shielding and isolating, our increased PPE costs continue, and our fundraising events are still cancelled. A few examples of how your money can help change lives in your community:

  • £29 can provide an hour’s care within a family’s own home

  • £40 could supply one of our Supported Living bungalows with PPE masks for one day

  • £75 helps to fund a 1:1 afternoon session for a child at Lily’s Place, our respite home

  • £840 helps fund one day’s supply of PPE masks across our 21 Supported Living bungalows
