Tom's Big Bike Ride
60 Racecourses - 2,600miles - Solo bike ride
My name is Tom Dunlop (19yrs). During my Gap year I wanted to challenge myself and raise monies for two charities - the Injured Jockeys Fund and The Beehive Diverse Abilities. Having travelled to New Zealand, Hong Kong and South Africa it is now time to give something back. I am now going to cycle to all 60 Racecourses in Great Britain starting in the south on the 27th July at Newton Abbot, travelling as far north to Perth then down and across to Ffos Las in Wales, finishing on 28 August at Newbury racecourse. Which means approximately 2,600 miles of peddling!
I will be self-navigating my way through the cities & towns and glens & fenlands avoiding the main roads. My progress will be live tracked so if you would like join me on any of the legs you are most welcome.
My two chosen charities are:
The Injured Jockeys Fund. The IJF is dedicated to providing support to jockeys and their families when effected by all types of injury. They are there for medical, pastoral and financial assistance.
and
Diverse Abilities, a charity in Dorset which provides a therapy and activity centre for adults with disabilities, The Beehive. My godmother’s son Ollie has Angelman’s Syndrome and thrives when he attends the centre. The charity is fundraising to build a hydo pool which I am keen to support with my fundraising.
