More about the role…

Key responsibilities:

  • To provide specialised nursing assessment of all pupils.

  • To provide planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing and care needs for those pupils whose health care needs are above those of universal nursing services for children and young people.

  • To provide advice, support, training and supervision to other staff within the organisation, to families and to other stakeholders as required, under the direction of the Lead Nurse.

  • To work with universal health care services to enable the children and young people at Linwood School to access health care in a timely and beneficial way.

  • To work with the rest of the Diverse Abilities Nursing Team to develop and improve services, contributing to the provision of excellent nursing care to children and young people with complex needs.

Clinical duties:

  • To demonstrate professional skill and knowledge in the clinical practices required for the nursing care of service users who have physical and learning disabilities with complex health care needs.

  • To assess, plan, implement and evaluate health care, guiding other school staff where appropriate to deliver effective, holistic, person centred care.

  • To be competent in and able to teach the use of appropriate technical equipment in order to provide the best care for each person supported.

  • To take an active role in health promotion with pupils, supporting and encouraging them to take as active a role as possible in taking responsibility for their own health.
