Colten Care supports children’s festive activities

Colten Care’s Bourne View, based in Poole, partnered with its charity partner, Diverse Abilities, to provide a series of festive goodies for the children supported by the charity’s Project My Time service.

The home provided more than 60 festive cupcakes and a large cake decorated as a present for all of the children and families in attendance to enjoy, as well as helping the activities to go ahead as planned, including a Christmas party hosted by Richard from Party Time. Richard has supported Project My Time for more than 10 years and provides fun and games.

Amy Topp, short breaks coordinator at Diverse Abilities, commented: “We know that this year has been difficult for so many, especially the families of the children we support. Being unable to attend school or play sessions over the spring and summer created a real strain for families, so as soon as we were able to provide any form of ‘normal’ play sessions, we were thrilled to be able to support our families.

“It has been really heart-warming for the whole team to be able to catch up with everyone, be a shoulder for any difficulties they’re facing, and bring back the magic of Christmas.”

The children also enjoyed a Christmas film and pizza lunch at the charity’s family centre in West Moors, being transformed into a cosy cinema with beanbags, cushions, and throws. Eight families enjoyed Home Alone 2, chosen by the children, and a pizza delivery for lunch, alongside the cakes provided by Colten Care.

Mark Aitchison, CEO of Colten Care, added: “Colten Care has supported Diverse Abilities in many ways over the years. This last year’s ‘challenges’ have somewhat hampered that support. We were delighted to hear about these two fun Christmas parties for the children and jumped at the chance of being able to support them. I hope a fantastic time was had by all. Merry Christmas.”

Project My Time provides holiday activities for children and young people with disabilities during every school holiday, an after-school club for children during term time, and a weekend club for children to hang out and have fun.
