Music Therapy
Langside offers timetabled whole class and individual music therapy sessions to all pupils.
Benefits of music therapy
Music has proven to be one of the top motivators for children with a disability, whether using instruments or recorded music.
Music is also a rich way to connect with a child and deepen the bond, but possibly more important for our children – it’s non-verbal. It can help to reinforce areas of speech, cognitive abilities, motor coordination and a range of motion.
We create individual goals, which vary from child to child, and are tied to creating positive behaviour and increasing emotional well-being.
Making music with the community
We often take our music students out into the community – sometimes singing and signing with the adults we support at The Beehive Centre, or sometimes visiting our neighbouring care home to sing Christmas carols and popular songs.
