Bournemouth University
Bournemouth University gets involved with Diverse Abilities in so many ways, including volunteering and fundraising.
Student volunteers have taken part in a huge variety of projects from helping to create a sensory garden at Langside School, wrapping Christmas presents for the adults we support, making thank you cards for us to send to supporters, and volunteering at local community events.
During 2014/15 our link with the university grew as we became one if it’s RAG Committee’s chosen charities (Raising and Giving Committee). The team raised just under £10,000 over the academic year.
We also work closely with the university to provide academic opportunities, such as work experience and internship opportunities.
Emma Stileman, politics student, commented: “I recently took part in a nine-month placement with Diverse Abilities and I loved it! Not only was the team extremely welcoming and made me feel at home, but I had so many opportunities too. I was given many research projects, helped to organise and assist at events, looked after donors and so much more.”
“The highlighted of my time was the annual Gala Ball as I helped to raise a huge amount of money for a great cause, got to know the team better and had an excuse to get a new black tie outift!”
“I got so much out of this placement, but the biggest thing this helped me work on was my confidence skill. A massive thank you to Diverse Abilities for giving me a look into fundraising and also for allowing me to grow.”
