Short Breaks Supervisor

Rate: £12.82 per hour

Overall purpose:

To support more complex children and young people with additional emotional needs and disabilities and their siblings in their play at a variety of activities across the BCP area.

To ensure positive outcomes and the continual safety, health, and wellbeing of the children and young people using Children’s Services.


This role requires staff to

  • Delivery of Short Breaks to children and young people, who are disabled, to help fulfil their social needs through play/activities on a 1:1 basis.

  • Maintain records of all sessions and give to Short Breaks Co-ordinator.

  • Supervise staff during the sessions.

  • Play an active role as part of the staff team and act as a role model for younger staff.

  • Act as a mentor for new staff.

  • Report back to parents about the child/young person’s experience of the activity including any incident/accident.

  • Discuss and report any incident/accident about the children or young people with Short Breaks Co-ordinator.

  • Administer medication where appropriate.

  • Support staff with personal care of the children they are supporting including the moving and assisting of children using hoists etc.

  • Be prepared to gain a Level 3 – First Aid at Work qualification.

  • Adhere to the highest standards of safeguarding procedure by reporting concerns or marks to the senior staff and by being aware of the organisation’s policies and procedures and attending appropriate training courses.

  • Implement and work to all policies and procedures, which are available to read at the CHAOS Families Centre office.

  • Attend and participate in all staff meetings, training, and development as identified necessary for the role and to develop one’s own skills and abilities.
