Bank Special School Nurse

Rate: Band 5 - £14.53-£17.69

Overall purpose:

To be responsible and accountable for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for the pupils at Langside School. Implementing evidenced based practice enabling pupils to gain optimum access to their education provision. Work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team and undertake delegated tasks from the Senior Nurses and Lead Nurse. The postholder will always work within the NMC’s Code of Professional Conduct.


Key Duties

  • To provide specialised nursing care for the pupils including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing and care needs in keeping with the wishes of pupils and their carers.

  • To support pupils to access education by ensuring all health needs are met in a timely and safe manner.

  • To develop competence in the use of appropriate technical equipment in order to provide the best care for the pupils.

  • To assist in supporting pupils and families through health care investigations, and treatment.

  • To instigate opportunities for health promotion, supporting pupils to be as independent as possible with their own health needs.

  • To actively promote the need for dignity and respect for pupils, family, staff and visitors at all times.

  • To implement the hygiene and infection control and prevent policy

  • To develop the ability to use the different forms of communication which are appropriate for the pupils.

  • To provide information and advice regarding pharmacological and non-pharmacological management of health needs, according to own skills and knowledge.

  • To risk assess for educational visits and then support the health needs of pupils on educational visits.

  • To keep up to date with safeguarding issues and report any concerns to the safeguarding lead or deputy.
