Adult Services

Important message regarding our adult services

“There has recently been a higher demand than usual for supported living and community support. We recommend you contact your local Health and Social Care Learning Disability Team for new referrals as we can only receive referrals once a package has been authorised by the social and healthcare fundholders. We thank you for looking at our website, and hope you get the support required.” Mark Powell, Chief Executive Officer

Adults supported by Diverse Abilities take part in a range of activities during the day and in the evening, enhancing their skills and meeting their physical and mental health wellbeing needs.

Communication is vital and assistive technology, PEC tools, and facial expressions are ways in which staff are trained to help reduce frustrations and allow an individual to communicate their views and choices.

If you wish to find out more or discuss your needs in more detail, you are more than welcome to have a tour of The Beehive Centre and meet some of the people we support, as well as the people who make it all possible.

Our adult services continue our mission to provide extraordinary lives for extraordinary people. We want the people we support to live as independently as possible, to enjoy their lives and make progress on things that are important to them.

Adult Services consists of The Beehive Centre and our Supported Living Service.

We offer day care activities and therapy at The Beehive Centre. As part of the support team, we have a health care team consisting of a nurse, occupational therapist, and health care assistants.

Our Supported Living Service provides 24/7 support 365 days a year. The adults we support have the opportunity to get out in the community, take part in a variety of activities, and live their lives as independently as possible.

Our vision is to transform the therapy offered to adults with profound and life-long disabilities in Dorset. We are embarking on a major project to build a new state-of-the-art therapy pool. To build this, we need to raise £1 million.

Most of the adults supported by the charity are unable to use public swimming pools due to the low water temperature and poor accessibility, and there are no warm pool facilities in Dorset dedicated to providing therapy for adults with lifelong disabilities.

Without a therapy pool we are unable to meet the increasingly complex needs of adults with profound disabilities.
